Cafe Science Dundee

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

From microwaves to mobile phones to computers, we take technology for granted but how much do you know about how it is designed and developed? The public are becoming more involved in how technology should look and how it should work, but there is one group who are missing out. Those with disabilities are often ignored when technology is being designed, even when the technology is aimed at them – for example electronic wheelchairs.

Join us for this exciting and very relevant talk by Suzanne Prior and Rachel Menzies in Infusions Coffee Shop, Dundee Science Centre – Sensation, where they will talk about how they are working with those with disabilities in two projects – the first involves adults with complex physical impairments in designing a talking hospital information pack and the second involving children with Asperger Syndrome in developing a game to improve social awareness.

This is a FREE Event and everyone is welcome. Dundee Science Centre closes at 5pm, and doors will re-open at 5:30pm for the Cafe Science Extra talk. As always, Cafe Science Extra is followed by Reclaim – Dundee Science Centre’s adults only night where the centre stays open for free.

We have a range of topics and excellent speakers lined up for this season, we hope to see you at a Cafe Science soon!
